Cultural determinism

Cultural determinism is the view that learned cultural patterns strongly shape human behavior, social roles, and institutions. It emphasizes cultural influence without necessarily claiming that individuals have no agency.

Culture: Shared meanings, practices, norms, and material forms transmitted within a social group. Cultural determinism treats these shared patterns as major influences on behavior.
Biological determinism: The view that biological traits or processes largely determine human behavior and social outcomes. It assigns explanatory priority to biology rather than learned cultural patterns.
Cultural materialism: An anthropological approach explaining cultural practices through material conditions and their effects. It offers a specific account of how conditions shape cultural patterns and behavior.
