Knowra Cyan Cyan Cyan is a blue-green color in the visible spectrum and a primary color in subtractive color printing. It absorbs red light and reflects or transmits blue and green light.
Visible spectrum : The range of electromagnetic wavelengths detectable by the human eye. Cyan occupies a region of this spectrum between blue and green.
Subtractive color : A color system in which materials create colors by absorbing selected wavelengths from illumination. Cyan printing ink removes red light from the reflected spectrum.
Four-color process printing : A printing method that combines cyan, magenta, yellow, and black inks to reproduce images. Cyan is a core ink whose balance strongly affects printed blues and greens.
Aqua : A name for a light blue-green color, often used interchangeably with cyan in digital palettes. The names overlap, though aqua often suggests a lighter or greener shade.
Wavelength : The distance between successive peaks of a wave, used to describe light’s spectral composition. Cyan light is associated with wavelengths between those commonly perceived as blue and green.
Cyan–magenta–yellow–key : The four-color printing process using cyan, magenta, yellow, and black inks. Cyan is one of the process inks that builds printed color through selective absorption.
RGB color model : An additive color model that represents colors through red, green, and blue light. Its cyan is produced by combining green and blue light rather than cyan ink.
Turquoise : A blue-green color named after the gemstone, often darker or more greenish than cyan. Its boundaries with cyan vary, but turquoise commonly implies a less luminous hue.
Color vision : The visual system’s ability to distinguish light by its spectral and intensity differences. Cyan is a perceptual color, not a single uniquely defined wavelength.
Kubelka–Munk theory : A model describing light absorption and scattering in diffusely reflecting materials. It helps explain how cyan pigments alter light scattered back from paper.
