Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex

The Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex is a large North Texas metropolitan region anchored by Dallas and Fort Worth and comprising numerous cities and suburbs.

Dallas County: Dallas County is a county in North Texas whose seat is Dallas. It contains Dallas and many of the metroplex’s eastern suburbs.
Dallas Area Rapid Transit: Dallas Area Rapid Transit is a public transportation agency serving Dallas and nearby North Texas cities. Its rail and bus network links central Dallas with suburbs across the eastern metroplex.
Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas: The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas is one of twelve regional banks in the United States Federal Reserve System. Its headquarters in Dallas reflects the metroplex’s role as a major financial center.
Republic of Texas: The Republic of Texas was an independent state that existed from 1836 until its annexation by the United States in 1845. The region’s early settlement unfolded within the Republic before Texas joined the United States.
Houston metropolitan area: The Houston metropolitan area is a large metropolitan region centered on Houston in southeastern Texas. It is Texas’s other major metropolitan region, with a different geography and economic history.
Tarrant County: Tarrant County is a county in North Texas whose seat is Fort Worth. It contains Fort Worth and much of the metroplex’s western urban area.
Trinity Railway Express: The Trinity Railway Express is a commuter rail service connecting Dallas and Fort Worth. It provides a direct transit link between the region’s two principal cities.
Fort Worth Stockyards: The Fort Worth Stockyards is a historic district associated with the city’s cattle-trading and railroad past. It preserves the cattle and ranching heritage often associated with Fort Worth.
Dallas–Fort Worth campaign: The Dallas–Fort Worth campaign was a nineteenth-century effort to bring a transcontinental railroad through North Texas. Competition over rail access helped set the two cities on distinct but connected growth paths.
San Antonio metropolitan area: The San Antonio metropolitan area is a metropolitan region centered on San Antonio in south-central Texas. Its more compact urban structure contrasts with the metroplex’s many-city, two-center pattern.
