Daniel O'Connell

Daniel O'Connell (1775–1847) was an Irish political leader who won Catholic emancipation in 1829 and campaigned to repeal the union between Great Britain and Ireland.

Catholic Association: An Irish political organization founded in 1823 to campaign for Catholic emancipation. O’Connell used its low-cost membership system to mobilize Catholics across Ireland.
Penal Laws (Ireland): Irish laws that restricted Catholics’ property rights, education, worship, and access to public office. The legal disabilities he opposed shaped his emancipation campaign.
