Danyang–Kunshan Grand Bridge

A 164.8-kilometer viaduct in eastern China carrying the Beijing–Shanghai high-speed railway. It is recognized as the world's longest bridge.

Viaduct: A long bridge composed of a series of spans supported by piers, often crossing valleys or low ground. The bridge is predominantly a viaduct, with repeated elevated spans across eastern China's landscape.
Prestressed concrete: Concrete in which internal stresses are deliberately introduced to improve its behavior under load. Prestressed concrete is widely used in long viaduct spans to control cracking and deflection.
China Railway High-speed: The high-speed rail service network operated by China Railway. Its trains use the bridge as part of the Beijing–Shanghai route.
Changhua–Kaohsiung Viaduct: A roughly 157-kilometer railway viaduct in Taiwan, part of the Taiwan High Speed Rail line. It is another exceptionally long railway viaduct, but shorter than Danyang–Kunshan.
High-speed rail: Rail transport using trains and infrastructure designed for substantially higher speeds than conventional railways. The bridge carries high-speed trains rather than serving road traffic.
Pile foundation: A deep foundation that transfers structural loads into stronger soil or rock through long, slender elements. Deep foundations support piers where near-surface ground cannot carry the loads alone.
Shanghai Hongqiao railway station: A major railway station in Shanghai serving high-speed and other rail services. The bridge lies on the approach to Shanghai for trains on the corridor.
Tianjin Grand Bridge: A roughly 113-kilometer viaduct on the Beijing–Shanghai high-speed railway in China. It shares the same railway corridor but is substantially shorter.
Beijing–Shanghai high-speed railway: A high-speed railway connecting Beijing and Shanghai, opened in 2011. The viaduct forms one section of this long-distance railway corridor.
Incremental launching: A bridge-building method in which completed deck sections are pushed forward from an abutment over successive supports. It is one method used to build long viaducts while limiting work at ground level.
