Dashboard
A display that gathers charts, indicators, and other summaries to monitor a system or communicate its current state.
Key performance indicator: A quantifiable measure used to assess progress toward a defined objective. Dashboards often foreground a small set of these measures to signal performance.
Data pipeline: A sequence of processes that collects, transforms, and delivers data for analysis or use. It supplies and prepares the information displayed in a dashboard.
Business intelligence: Methods and technologies for turning organizational data into information that supports decisions. Business intelligence systems commonly use dashboards to present analytical findings.
Static report: A fixed presentation of information that does not update or respond interactively. Unlike a dashboard, it captures a set view rather than ongoing system status.
Data visualization: The graphical representation of data to communicate patterns, comparisons, or relationships. Charts and visual encodings make dashboard measurements easier to scan.
Extract, transform, load: A process that extracts data from sources, transforms it, and loads it into a destination. ETL commonly prepares dashboard data for consistent reporting.
Operational dashboard: A dashboard designed to monitor current operations and support timely responses. It emphasizes live or frequently refreshed measures rather than long-term summaries.
Scorecard: A structured display that tracks performance against defined objectives or targets. Scorecards emphasize goal attainment, while dashboards may monitor broader conditions.
Chart: A visual representation of data using marks such as points, lines, bars, or sectors. Charts are common dashboard elements for showing trends and comparisons.
Data warehouse: A centralized repository that integrates data for querying, analysis, and reporting. Dashboards often query a warehouse to combine information from multiple sources.
