Dastgah

A modal system in Persian classical music that organizes melodic material into a sequence of characteristic motifs and pathways called gushehs.

Gusheh: A named melodic piece or section that forms part of a dastgah or avaz. A dastgah unfolds through a sequence of gushehs, each shaping its melodic path.
Tonic (music): The pitch that functions as a tonal center in a musical passage or composition. A dastgah establishes and revisits tonal centers that orient its melodic movement.
Persian classical music: A classical musical tradition of Iran built around modal organization, learned repertory, and improvisatory performance. Dastgah is the principal modal framework of this tradition.
