Davy Crockett

Davy Crockett was an American frontiersman, soldier, and politician who became a celebrated figure in popular culture. He died defending the Alamo during the 1836 Texas Revolution.

Andrew Jackson: Andrew Jackson was the seventh president of the United States and a leading figure in early American politics. Crockett served in Congress during Jackson’s presidency and became a prominent opponent of Jacksonian policies.

Sam Houston: Sam Houston was a soldier and politician who led the Republic of Texas and later served as its president. Houston led the Texan forces during the revolution in which Crockett died.
Greene County, Tennessee: A county in eastern Tennessee established in 1783 and named for Revolutionary War general Nathanael Greene. Crockett grew up in Greene County after his family settled there.
Davy Crockett (1954 television miniseries): A series of three 1954 Walt Disney television episodes starring Fess Parker as Davy Crockett. The series renewed Crockett’s fame and popularized the coonskin-cap image.
Mike Fink: Mike Fink was a nineteenth-century keelboatman portrayed in American frontier stories as a boastful marksman and brawler. Like Crockett, Fink became a comic frontier hero whose folklore outgrew the historical record.
Battle of the Alamo: The 1836 siege in which Mexican forces captured the Alamo mission in San Antonio after a thirteen-day battle. Crockett died during the battle, though accounts differ on the circumstances of his death.
