Daytime

Daytime is the part of a local solar day when the Sun is above the horizon. Its duration and timing vary with location, season, and atmospheric conditions.

Earth's rotation: Earth’s spin around its axis, which produces the daily cycle of sunrise and sunset. A location enters daytime as Earth’s rotation turns it toward the Sun.
Horizon: The apparent boundary separating the visible sky from the ground or sea. Daytime is defined by the Sun’s position relative to this boundary.
Daylight saving time: A seasonal clock adjustment that shifts civil time relative to local solar time. It changes clock labels for daytime without changing the Sun’s path.
Season: A recurring division of the year associated with changes in temperature, weather, and daylight. Seasonal changes in daytime length follow Earth’s axial tilt.
