De Long Islands

The De Long Islands are a remote Russian archipelago in the Arctic Ocean, northeast of the New Siberian Islands. They form part of the Sakha Republic and include both rocky islands and an island largely covered by ice.

New Siberian Islands: A Russian Arctic archipelago between the Laptev and East Siberian seas. The De Long Islands lie northeast of this larger archipelago.
Bennett Island: The largest island in the De Long group, in the Arctic Ocean north of Siberia. It is the group’s largest island and was reached by an 1881 expedition.
George W. De Long: An American naval officer who led the Jeannette expedition into the Arctic in 1879. The archipelago bears his name, though he did not discover every island.

Laptev Sea: A marginal sea of the Arctic Ocean north of central Siberia. It lies west of the De Long Islands and the New Siberian archipelago.
Zhokhov Island: A small island in the De Long group, south of Bennett Island. It is the southernmost island in the group.
