Delaware River

The Delaware River flows from the Catskill Mountains through the Mid-Atlantic region to Delaware Bay, where it enters the Atlantic Ocean. Its watershed supplies drinking water to millions of people.

Delaware Bay: An estuary where the Delaware River widens before reaching the Atlantic Ocean. The river ends in this tidal estuary.
Catskill Mountains: A mountain range in southeastern New York that forms part of the Appalachian system. The river’s East and West branches begin in the Catskills.
Philadelphia water supply: The system that provides drinking water to Philadelphia, drawing primarily from the Schuylkill and Delaware rivers. The Delaware is one of the city’s two principal drinking-water sources.

Susquehanna River: A major river flowing from New York through Pennsylvania to Chesapeake Bay. It drains the western side of the region into a different Atlantic estuary.
