Demetrios Vikelas

Demetrios Vikelas (1835–1908) was a Greek writer and businessman who served as the first president of the International Olympic Committee from 1894 to 1896.

Pierre de Coubertin: A French educator and historian who helped found the modern Olympic movement and served as IOC president from 1896 to 1925. He recruited Vikelas into the Olympic revival and succeeded him as IOC president.
1894 Paris Congress: The international congress held in Paris in 1894 that established the International Olympic Committee and set plans for reviving the Olympic Games. Vikelas was elected IOC president at this founding gathering.
