Dennis Ritchie

Dennis Ritchie was an American computer scientist who created the C programming language and co-developed the Unix operating system.

Unix: A multiuser operating system developed at Bell Labs and first released in 1971. Ritchie co-developed Unix, whose design and implementation were closely tied to C.
Unix philosophy: A design approach favoring small tools that perform focused tasks and work together through simple interfaces. Unix embodied the modular approach developed by Ritchie and his collaborators.
Multics: A time-sharing operating system developed by a consortium including Bell Labs, MIT, and General Electric. After Bell Labs left Multics, its ideas and shortcomings informed Unix’s creation.
Dennis Ritchie and Brian Kernighan's The C Programming Language: A 1978 textbook by Brian Kernighan and Dennis Ritchie that defined and taught the C language. This concise book became the canonical account of C during its early spread.
