Didier Queloz

Didier Queloz is a Swiss astronomer who co-discovered 51 Pegasi b, the first known exoplanet orbiting a Sun-like star, and shared the 2019 Nobel Prize in Physics.

51 Pegasi b: An exoplanet discovered in 1995 orbiting the Sun-like star 51 Pegasi every 4.2 days. Queloz and Michel Mayor discovered this unexpectedly massive, close-orbiting planet.
Radial-velocity method: A planet-detection technique that measures periodic shifts in a star's spectral lines caused by orbital motion. Queloz used this method to detect 51 Pegasi's motion toward and away from Earth.
Michel Mayor: A Swiss astronomer who co-discovered 51 Pegasi b with Didier Queloz in 1995. Mayor led the observatory group in which Queloz carried out the discovery.
