Diffusionism

Diffusionism is the view that cultural traits spread between societies through contact and transmission. It explains similarities between cultures through borrowing and movement rather than independent invention alone.

Cultural diffusion: The spread of cultural ideas, practices, or objects between people and societies. The broader process diffusionism uses to explain similarities between societies.
Anthropology: The comparative study of humans, societies, cultures, and their development. Diffusionism became a major approach to explaining cultural similarities in this broader field.
Cultural evolutionism: The theory that societies develop through common stages from simpler to more complex forms. It explains cultural similarities through parallel development rather than borrowing.
