Digital distribution delivers video games to users over networks, typically through storefronts and downloadable files, instead of physical media.

Digital distribution platform: An online service that hosts, sells, or delivers digital media and software. Platforms combine catalogs, payment, account access, and delivery for games.
GameLine: A 1980s Atari 2600 service that offered games through a telephone connection and cartridge adapter. It was an early attempt to distribute console games through telecommunications.
