Ding Ling

Ding Ling was a Chinese writer whose fiction and essays examined women’s lives, revolutionary politics, and social change. Her work spans the Republican era and the People’s Republic of China.

May Fourth Movement: A cultural and political movement that began in China in 1919, promoting intellectual reform and opposition to imperialism. Its challenges to tradition helped create the literary climate in which Ding Ling began writing.
