Dionysios Solomos

Dionysios Solomos (1798–1857) was a Greek poet whose “Hymn to Liberty” supplied the words of the Greek national anthem. He helped shape modern Greek literature through poetry written in the vernacular language.

Hymn to Liberty: A long poem by Dionysios Solomos celebrating the Greek struggle for independence; its first two stanzas became Greece’s national anthem. This poem made Solomos’s name inseparable from Greek independence and national identity.
