Diphallia

Diphallia is a rare congenital condition in which a person is born with two penises, either fully formed or partially duplicated. The anatomy varies widely and may involve other urinary or reproductive structures.

Genital tubercle: An embryonic structure that develops into the external genitalia. Its early development is central to formation of the penis and proposed explanations of duplication.
Complete diphallia: A form of diphallia in which two penises are fully duplicated. It represents the most extensive form of the condition.
Prenatal diagnosis: The identification of a condition in a fetus before birth. Ultrasound or other prenatal imaging may detect genital or urinary tract anomalies.
Pseudodiphallia: An apparent penile duplication in which one structure is not a fully formed penis. It contrasts true duplication with cases where an accessory structure resembles a second penis.
Urogenital sinus: An embryonic cavity that contributes to the bladder, urethra, and parts of the reproductive tract. Associated urinary structures can also be duplicated in diphallia.
Partial diphallia: A form of diphallia in which only part of the penis is duplicated. It illustrates why the condition does not always involve two fully formed organs.
Ultrasonography: Medical imaging that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of internal structures. It can help map urinary and reproductive anatomy in a person with diphallia.
Micropenis: A normally formed penis that is substantially smaller than the expected range for age and development. It concerns size rather than the duplication that defines diphallia.
Urethra: A tube that carries urine from the bladder to the outside of the body. One or both duplicated penises may have a urethra, with substantial variation between cases.
Diphallia classification: A system for describing penile duplication by its extent and anatomical arrangement. Classification distinguishes complete from partial duplication and other configurations.
