French Directory

The French Directory was the five-man executive government of the French Republic from 1795 until Napoleon Bonaparte’s coup of 18 Brumaire in 1799.

Constitution of Year III: The French constitution adopted in 1795 that established the Directory and its legislature. It defined the Directory’s powers and the institutions meant to restrain it.
