Dissolution of Austria-Hungary

The breakup of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1918, which ended the Habsburg monarchy and created successor states amid postwar territorial transfers.

World War I: A global war fought from 1914 to 1918, centered on the Allied and Central Powers. Austria-Hungary's defeat in this war made the empire's survival untenable.
