Diurnal animal

A diurnal animal is active primarily during daylight and typically rests at night. Its activity pattern is shaped by environmental conditions and biological rhythms.

Circadian rhythm: An internal biological cycle with a period of about 24 hours that coordinates recurring processes. This internal clock helps align activity with the day–night cycle.
Nocturnal animal: An animal that is active primarily at night. Nocturnal activity occupies the dark hours that diurnal animals usually avoid.
Foraging: The behavior by which an animal searches for and obtains food. Daylight can make food easier to locate or safer to reach.
Honey bee: A social bee that lives in colonies and gathers nectar and pollen from flowers. Honey bees commonly forage in daylight, when flowers and visual landmarks are available.
Suprachiasmatic nucleus: A paired structure in the hypothalamus that coordinates mammalian circadian rhythms. In mammals, this brain region helps synchronize daily activity with light.
Cathemeral animal: An animal with irregular activity distributed across both day and night. Cathemeral schedules do not concentrate activity in daylight.
Predation: An interaction in which one organism kills and consumes another. Predators and prey may schedule activity to meet or avoid each other.
Domestic chicken: A domesticated bird descended from the red junglefowl and raised worldwide. Chickens typically feed and move during the day, then roost at night.
Photoperiodism: A biological response to the relative lengths of light and darkness in a day. Seasonal changes in daylight can shift activity and reproduction.
Crepuscular animal: An animal that is most active around dawn and dusk. Crepuscular activity peaks at twilight rather than across the day.
