Djibouti

Djibouti is a small country in the Horn of Africa, on the Gulf of Aden between Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Somalia. Its location beside the Bab el-Mandeb Strait has made it a major port and strategic military hub.

Bab el-Mandeb: A narrow strait connecting the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean. Djibouti’s coast lies beside this passage between the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
Port of Djibouti: A seaport complex serving Djibouti and providing a principal maritime gateway for Ethiopia. Its cargo and transit services anchor Djibouti’s economy.
French Somaliland: A French colonial territory on the Horn of Africa coast, established in the late nineteenth century and later renamed the French Territory of the Afars and the Issas. It was the colonial predecessor of independent Djibouti.
