Dodecane

Dodecane is a straight-chain alkane with the molecular formula C₁₂H₂₆. Its twelve carbon atoms form an unbranched chain saturated with hydrogen.

Alkanes: Alkanes are saturated hydrocarbons whose carbon atoms are joined by single bonds. Dodecane belongs to this family and follows its general molecular formula.

Tridecane: Tridecane is a straight-chain alkane with the molecular formula C₁₃H₂₈. Its additional carbon raises molecular size and generally raises the boiling point.
Structural formula: A structural formula represents how atoms are connected in a molecule. The formula CH₃(CH₂)₁₀CH₃ makes dodecane’s unbranched connectivity explicit.
Vapor pressure: Vapor pressure is the pressure exerted by a vapor in equilibrium with its condensed phase. Dodecane’s low volatility at room temperature corresponds to a low vapor pressure.
