Dogmatic theology

Dogmatic theology systematically studies and presents doctrines a faith community accepts as authoritative. It organizes those teachings and examines their coherence, sources, and implications.

Doctrine: A teaching or set of teachings held by a religious community as authoritative. Dogmatic theology takes doctrines as its central subject.
Loci theologici: The sources or grounds from which theological arguments and doctrines are developed. They identify the evidential foundations dogmatic theology draws upon.
Peter Lombard: A twelfth-century theologian whose Sentences organized Christian teaching into a widely studied textbook. His arrangement of authoritative teachings helped establish systematic theological study.
Biblical theology: The study of theological themes as they develop within biblical texts and their historical settings. It foregrounds scripture's historical development rather than beginning with a settled doctrinal system.

Historical theology: The study of how theological ideas and doctrines developed through history. Historical study traces the formation and changing articulation of accepted teachings.
