Domestic rabbit

The domestic rabbit is the domesticated form of the European rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus), bred for companionship, meat, and fiber. It differs from wild rabbits through traits shaped by selective breeding and life alongside humans.

European rabbit: A rabbit species native to the Iberian Peninsula and parts of western Europe, and the ancestor of domestic rabbits. Every domestic rabbit descends from this species.
Rabbit meat: Meat from rabbits raised or hunted for food. Meat production has influenced the size and growth traits of some breeds.
Rabbit domestication: The historical process by which European rabbits became animals bred and kept by humans. It explains how a wild species became the domestic rabbit.
