Donald Winnicott

Donald Winnicott (1896–1971) was a British pediatrician and psychoanalyst whose accounts of early caregiving, play, and emotional development shaped object-relations theory.

Object-relations theory: A psychoanalytic tradition that explains mental life through relationships with internalized others. Winnicott became a major British contributor to this tradition, emphasizing the infant’s dependence on caregiving.
