Douglas MacArthur

Douglas MacArthur was an American general who commanded Allied forces in the Southwest Pacific during World War II and led the occupation of Japan.

Franklin D. Roosevelt: Franklin D. Roosevelt was the 32nd president of the United States, serving from 1933 until his death in 1945. As president, he appointed MacArthur to command Allied forces in the Southwest Pacific.
Southwest Pacific Area: The Allied command region led by MacArthur during World War II, covering Australia, New Guinea, and nearby islands. This was the theater in which MacArthur directed the campaign to return to the Philippines.
Liberation of the Philippines: The Allied campaign to expel Japanese forces from the Philippines from 1944 to 1945. MacArthur’s return at Leyte fulfilled his public promise to come back to the Philippines.
