Drepanosauromorpha

Drepanosauromorpha is an extinct group of reptiles known mainly from Triassic fossils. Its members had distinctive body forms, often including grasping tails and adaptations associated with climbing.

Diapsid: A reptile whose skull ancestrally has two openings behind each eye. Drepanosauromorphs are placed among diapsid reptiles, though their exact relationships remain debated.
Drepanosaurus: A Triassic drepanosauromorph with a hooked tail tip and enlarged claw on each forelimb. This names the group’s best-known form and displays its unusual climbing-related anatomy.
Drepanosaurus manus: The forefoot of Drepanosaurus, marked by an enlarged digit with a powerful claw. Its specialized claw has been interpreted as a tool for excavating or gripping.
Monte San Giorgio: A fossil-rich mountain region on the Switzerland–Italy border, known especially for Middle Triassic marine deposits. Its Triassic deposits yielded several important drepanosauromorph fossils.
