Dual Control

Dual Control was the Anglo-French system, established in 1876, for supervising Egypt’s finances through British and French officials. It ended amid the political crisis that led to Britain’s occupation of Egypt in 1882.

Caisse de la Dette Publique: An Egyptian institution established in 1876 to oversee revenues assigned to servicing the country’s public debt. It administered the revenues at the heart of Anglo-French financial supervision.
Egyptian debt crisis: The financial emergency of the 1870s in which Egypt struggled to meet large foreign debt obligations. The crisis directly prompted European financial supervision.
