Duchy of Courland and Semigallia

The Duchy of Courland and Semigallia was a Baltic state founded in 1561, initially under the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth’s suzerainty and later under Russian sovereignty, until its annexation in 1795.

Livonian War: A conflict from 1558 to 1583 in which Russia, Poland–Lithuania, Sweden, and Denmark fought over Livonia. The war’s end dismantled the Livonian Confederation and opened the way for Courland’s creation.
