Knowra Dutch-language literature Dutch-language literature Dutch-language literature comprises poetry, prose, drama, and other literary works written in Dutch. Its traditions span the Netherlands, Flanders, Suriname, and other Dutch-speaking communities.
Middle Dutch literature : Literature written in Middle Dutch, the medieval forms of Dutch used roughly from the twelfth through the fifteenth centuries. Its medieval texts establish the earliest substantial written tradition in Dutch.
Joost van den Vondel : A seventeenth-century Dutch poet and playwright, widely regarded as a major writer of the Dutch Golden Age. His tragedies and poetry became central models for Golden Age literary culture.
Van den vos Reynaerde : A Middle Dutch animal epic about the fox Reynaert, composed in the thirteenth century. Its satire and linguistic inventiveness make it a medieval touchstone.

Belgian literature : Literature produced in Belgium’s French-, Dutch-, and German-language communities. The national category includes Dutch-language writing alongside distinct linguistic traditions.
Flemish literature : Literature written in Dutch in Flanders, the Dutch-speaking region of Belgium. Its history shares a language with the Netherlands but developed under different political conditions.
Louis Couperus : A Dutch novelist of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, known for psychological and historical fiction. His novels brought psychological refinement and international visibility to Dutch prose.
