Dyson sphere

A hypothetical megastructure or system of structures built around a star to capture a substantial share of its energy. Freeman Dyson’s original proposal described a dispersed swarm, not a rigid shell.

Dyson swarm: A distributed collection of orbiting energy collectors surrounding a star. This configuration captures the central engineering idea without requiring a solid shell.
Freeman Dyson: An English-American theoretical physicist known for work in quantum electrodynamics and mathematical physics. His 1960 paper proposed searching for the waste heat of advanced civilizations.
