Eastern Visayas

Eastern Visayas is an administrative region of the Philippines comprising Samar, Leyte, and Biliran, with Tacloban as its regional center.

Samar: Samar is an island in the eastern Philippines divided among three provinces. It is one of the region’s three principal islands.
San Juanico Bridge: San Juanico Bridge connects the islands of Samar and Leyte across the San Juanico Strait. It provides the region’s most prominent fixed link between two major islands.
Typhoon Haiyan: Typhoon Haiyan was a powerful tropical cyclone that struck the central Philippines in November 2013. It devastated communities in Eastern Visayas, particularly around Tacloban and Leyte.
Central Visayas: Central Visayas is a Philippine administrative region centered on the islands of Cebu and Bohol. It lies west of Eastern Visayas across the Camotes and Mindanao seas.
Leyte: Leyte is an island in the central Philippines, divided between Leyte and Southern Leyte provinces. It forms the region’s central land area and includes its largest urban center.
Daniel Z. Romualdez Airport: Daniel Z. Romualdez Airport is the principal airport serving Tacloban and nearby parts of Leyte. It is a key air gateway to the regional center.
Tacloban City Convention Center: Tacloban City Convention Center is a large public venue in Tacloban, locally known as Astrodome. It became an evacuation shelter during Typhoon Haiyan and was overwhelmed by storm surge.
Bicol Region: The Bicol Region is a Philippine administrative region occupying the southeastern part of Luzon. It faces Eastern Visayas across the San Bernardino Strait.
Biliran: Biliran is a small island province in the eastern Philippines, north of Leyte. It is the region’s third principal island.
Port of Tacloban: The Port of Tacloban is a seaport serving the city and surrounding areas of Leyte. Maritime transport links the region’s islands and connects them to other Philippine ports.
