Edgar Cayce

Edgar Cayce (1877–1945) was an American clairvoyant who gave purported trance readings on health, spirituality, and past lives.

Hugh Lynn Cayce: Hugh Lynn Cayce was Edgar Cayce’s son and a leader of the Association for Research and Enlightenment. He expanded his father’s organization and helped interpret Cayce’s legacy.
Trance: A state of altered awareness in which attention and responsiveness differ from ordinary waking consciousness. Cayce’s readings were delivered while he appeared to be asleep or in trance.
Spiritualism: A religious movement centered on communication with the spirits of the dead, especially through mediums. Cayce’s claimed trance access belonged to a broader American culture of mediumship.

Atlantis: Atlantis is a legendary island civilization described by Plato and later reimagined in esoteric traditions. Cayce’s readings popularized claims that Atlantis had been an advanced historical civilization.
Lammers case: The 1923 episode in which Arthur Lammers sought an astrological reading from Edgar Cayce. The case helped turn Cayce’s readings toward reincarnation and esoteric subjects.
Past life regression: A practice that uses hypnosis or other methods to elicit purported memories of previous lives. Cayce’s readings often attributed present traits and ailments to past incarnations.
