Effective accelerationism

Effective accelerationism is a techno-optimist movement that advocates accelerating technological development, especially artificial intelligence, to pursue abundance and progress.

Nick Land: A British philosopher associated with the development of accelerationist thought. His writing helped establish the accelerationist ideas that e/acc later reinterpreted.
Technological progress: The development and diffusion of technologies that expand human capabilities or improve material conditions. E/acc treats continuing technological progress as its central route to better futures.
Doomerism: A pessimistic outlook that expects severe or catastrophic outcomes, especially from advanced artificial intelligence. E/acc rejects the view that AI development should primarily be restrained to avert catastrophe.
Technological singularity: A hypothetical future transition in which technological change becomes difficult to predict or control. Some accelerationist visions anticipate transformative change on a scale associated with singularity scenarios.
Accelerationism: A family of theories that treat the intensification of social, technological, or economic forces as a route to transformation. E/acc borrows accelerationist language while redirecting it toward technological progress.
Artificial intelligence: The design of computational systems that perform tasks associated with human intelligence. AI is the technology e/acc most often identifies as a driver of rapid change.
AI alignment: The research problem of making artificial intelligence systems reliably pursue intended goals and values. Alignment concerns challenge any assumption that faster AI progress is automatically beneficial.
Universal basic income: A policy that gives every individual regular cash payments without means testing or work requirements. It is one proposed response to income disruption from automation and rapid technological change.
Dark Enlightenment: A political movement and body of writing critical of liberal democracy and egalitarianism. Its pessimistic, hierarchical politics differ sharply from e/acc’s public-facing techno-optimism.
Productivity growth: An increase in the output produced per unit of labor, capital, or other input. Faster innovation is expected to raise productivity and make goods and services more abundant.
