Egypt under British rule

The period of British control in Egypt, beginning with the 1882 occupation and ending with the withdrawal of British forces in 1956. British authority shifted between military occupation, a protectorate, and formally independent but constrained rule.

British occupation of Egypt: The British military intervention in Egypt that began in 1882 and established a prolonged occupation. It initiated the period and gave Britain decisive control over Egyptian affairs.
