Eighth Dynasty of Egypt

The Eighth Dynasty of Egypt was a short-lived line of rulers traditionally associated with Memphis during the First Intermediate Period. Its chronology, succession, and historical extent remain uncertain.

Sixth Dynasty of Egypt: The Old Kingdom dynasty that ruled Egypt before the political fragmentation of the First Intermediate Period. Its collapse preceded the uncertain succession of rulers assigned to the Eighth Dynasty.
Abydos King List: An inscribed list of Egyptian kings commissioned under Seti I at the temple of Abydos. Its omissions and selections illustrate how later king lists shaped the dynasty’s uncertain record.
Neferkare VIII: A ruler assigned to Egypt’s Eighth Dynasty whose historical identity and reign are uncertain. He appears among the kings attributed to the dynasty in later reconstructions.
