Eiji Tsuburaya

Eiji Tsuburaya (1901–1970) was a Japanese cinematographer and special-effects director who pioneered tokusatsu filmmaking and helped create the visual effects of the original Godzilla films.

Tokusatsu: A Japanese filmmaking tradition built around practical special effects, including miniatures, costumes, and optical techniques. Tsuburaya’s effects work helped establish the filmmaking tradition now associated with his productions.
