Knowra Eldridge Cleaver Eldridge Cleaver Eldridge Cleaver (1935–1998) was an American writer and political activist who became a prominent leader of the Black Panther Party. His essay collection Soul on Ice drew on his experiences with prison, race, and political struggle.
Huey P. Newton : Huey P. Newton co-founded the Black Panther Party and served as its defense minister. As party chairman, Newton was Cleaver’s central political counterpart and later a rival over the party’s direction.
Black Panther Party : The Black Panther Party was a revolutionary Black political organization founded in Oakland, California, in 1966. Cleaver became the party’s minister of information and one of its most visible national figures.
Soul on Ice : Soul on Ice is Eldridge Cleaver’s 1968 collection of essays about race, prison, sexuality, and politics. The book made Cleaver nationally known and remains his most influential work.
