Electrical resistivity

Electrical resistivity is a material property that quantifies how strongly a substance opposes electric current. For a uniform conductor, it relates resistance to length and cross-sectional area.

Electrical resistance: Electrical resistance measures how much a component or material opposes electric current. For a uniform sample, resistance equals resistivity multiplied by length and divided by cross-sectional area.
Electric current: Electric current is the rate at which electric charge passes through a surface. Resistivity describes opposition to the flow measured as current.
Copper: Copper is a ductile metal with high electrical and thermal conductivity. Its low resistivity makes it a standard material for electrical wiring.
Electrical insulator: An electrical insulator is a material with very low electrical conductivity under specified conditions. Insulators occupy the high-resistivity end of the range of materials.
Mott transition: A Mott transition is a change between metallic and insulating behavior driven by electron interactions. It shows that resistivity can change sharply when interactions localize charge carriers.
Drude model: The Drude model describes electrical conduction by treating electrons in a solid as a classical gas of particles. It links resistivity to electron collisions with the material's structure.
Ohm's law: Ohm's law states that voltage across an ohmic component is proportional to current through it. It connects measured voltage and current to a sample's resistance.
Nichrome: Nichrome is a nickel-chromium alloy known for oxidation resistance and relatively high electrical resistivity. Its resistivity makes it useful in heating elements.
Electrical conductor: An electrical conductor is a material that permits electric charge to flow readily. Conductors have low resistivity compared with insulators.
Anderson localization: Anderson localization is the suppression of wave transport caused by disorder-induced interference. It can prevent conduction even when classical scattering models predict a conducting state.
