Electronics is the study and application of devices that control electric current and signals. It centers on using components such as diodes and transistors to shape, amplify, switch, or process electrical signals.

Semiconductor: A material whose electrical conductivity lies between that of a conductor and an insulator and can be controlled in useful ways. Its controllable conductivity lets electronic devices regulate current.
Electric current: The rate at which electric charge passes through a point or surface. Electronic circuits control current to create switching and signal behavior.
Digital electronics: Electronics that represents and processes information using discrete signal levels, commonly binary values. It builds logic and memory from switched electronic states.
Electrical engineering: An engineering discipline concerned with electrical systems, including power, electronics, communications, and control. Electronics is a major branch within this broader engineering discipline.
Diode: A two-terminal electronic component that conducts current much more readily in one direction than the other. Its one-way conduction enables rectification and signal shaping.
Voltage: The difference in electric potential between two points, representing energy per unit charge. Voltage differences drive current through electronic components.
Analog electronics: Electronics that processes signals varying continuously over a range of values. It conditions real-world signals before or without digital conversion.
Power engineering: The engineering of large-scale generation, transmission, distribution, and use of electrical power. It emphasizes bulk energy systems rather than control of signals and device-level currents.
Transistor: A semiconductor device that controls current or voltage and can act as a switch or amplifier. Transistors provide the basic switching and amplification used throughout electronics.
Resistance: A measure of how strongly a material or component opposes electric current. Resistance sets current and voltage relationships in basic circuits.
