Elem Klimov

Elem Klimov (1933–2003) was a Soviet and Russian film director whose work confronted war, historical trauma, and social upheaval, most famously in Come and See.

Come and See: A 1985 Soviet war film directed by Elem Klimov, following a Belarusian teenager amid Nazi occupation and mass violence. Klimov’s best-known film turns his antiwar vision into a child’s experience of occupation.
Moscow State Institute of Cinematography: A Soviet film school, also known as VGIK, that trained generations of filmmakers and actors. Klimov studied directing at VGIK, where his filmmaking career began.
