Elias James Corey

Elias James Corey is an American organic chemist who developed retrosynthetic analysis and received the 1990 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for contributions to the theory and methodology of organic synthesis.

Retrosynthetic analysis: A method for planning a chemical synthesis by mentally disconnecting a target molecule into simpler precursors. Corey developed this systematic way to plan organic syntheses backward from their targets.
