Elihu Yale

Elihu Yale (1649–1721) was an English merchant and philanthropist whose donations supported the Collegiate School in Connecticut, later named Yale College in his honor.

Collegiate School: The Connecticut institution founded in 1701 that became Yale College and later Yale University. Yale's donations of books and goods supported this school in its early years.
Cotton Mather: A New England Puritan minister, author, and advocate of the Collegiate School. Mather corresponded with Yale and helped solicit his support for the school.
