Ellen Terry

Ellen Terry (1847–1928) was an English stage actress celebrated for her Shakespearean roles and her long association with London’s Lyceum Theatre.

Portia: A wealthy heiress in Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice who disguises herself as a lawyer to argue a court case. Terry’s Portia in Henry Irving’s production became one of her signature Shakespearean performances.
