Émile Bernard

Émile Bernard (1868–1941) was a French painter and writer associated with Post-Impressionism and Synthetism. His bold outlines and flat areas of color helped shape the style known as Cloisonnism.

Post-Impressionism: A late nineteenth-century movement in which artists developed distinct approaches beyond Impressionism’s emphasis on transient visual effects. Bernard’s work is commonly situated within this broad movement.
