Emir Kusturica

Emir Kusturica is a Serbian filmmaker, screenwriter, and musician whose films include When Father Was Away on Business and Underground. His work is known for exuberant, surreal depictions of Balkan life and history.

When Father Was Away on Business: A 1985 Yugoslav drama directed by Emir Kusturica about a boy whose father is imprisoned during the Informbiro period. Its intimate family story brought Kusturica the Palme d’Or at Cannes.
