Emirate of Granada

A Muslim state in southern Iberia ruled by the Nasrid dynasty from the 13th century until Castile conquered it in 1492.

Nasrid dynasty: The Muslim ruling house that governed Granada from the 13th century until 1492. Its succession of rulers sustained the emirate across two and a half centuries.
Battle of Las Navas de Tolosa: A 1212 battle in which a coalition of Christian Iberian kingdoms defeated the Almohad Caliphate. The defeat weakened Almohad power and accelerated political fragmentation in al-Andalus.
Muhammad V of Granada: A 14th-century Nasrid ruler whose reign included Granada’s political and artistic flourishing. His rule marked a high point in the emirate’s power and court culture.
Granada War: The 1482–1492 conflict in which the Catholic Monarchs conquered the Emirate of Granada. The war was the military campaign that directly ended the emirate.

Capitulation of Granada: The January 1492 agreement that transferred Granada to the Catholic Monarchs and set terms for its inhabitants. Its terms formally ended Nasrid sovereignty while initially promising protections for Muslims.
Madrasa of Granada: A 14th-century Islamic school founded in Granada under Nasrid rule. It provides evidence of institutional learning within the emirate’s capital.
