Gaozong of Song

Gaozong was the first emperor of the Southern Song dynasty, ruling from 1127 to 1162 after fleeing the Jin conquest of northern China and establishing his court at Lin’an.

Treaty of Shaoxing: The 1142 settlement that ended major Song–Jin hostilities and formalized the Southern Song’s tributary relationship with the Jin. It codified the accommodation with the Jin that defined Gaozong’s later reign.
Jingkang incident: The 1127 capture of the Song capitals and emperors by the Jurchen Jin, which ended the Northern Song. The crisis created the opening for Gaozong’s accession in the south.
Qin Hui: A Song chancellor who advocated accommodation with the Jin and was central to Yue Fei’s prosecution. He became the leading political partner in Gaozong’s pursuit of a negotiated settlement.
